Dragon Ball Super Chapter #84 features a great team-up!
The present-day storyline in Dragon Ball Super Chapter #84 resumes as Goku and Vegeta finish listening to Bardock’s scouter recording. In a touching callback to the scene depicted in Dragon Ball Super: Broly, Goku recalls memories of not just his father Bardock, but his mother, Gine. This is the first time Goku has had any recollection of his mother canonically. It is something I can’t wait to see depicted in the anime’s inevitable return to the small screen. Hopefully, it will be expanded on later on.
Both of our Saiyans reflect on the message and its meaning to them.
Goku now understands, or as a Saiyan, remembers, what Saiyan pride means. Vegeta accepts that he has been carrying the pride of their people as a burden. Bardock’s wish to Toronbo that his sons survive and thrive is fleshed out a little more. After the last issue, many readers were puzzled about what “thriving” meant since Goku certainly did. Still, Raditz lived as an underpowered third wheel that Vegeta and Nappa had to carry and eventually bit the dust thanks to Goku and Piccolo. Truly what the wish achieved is that both boys would survive the destruction of Namek.
Gas arrives back on Planet Cereal. The Saiyans waste no time powering up to their respective Ultra forms and teaming up against the Heeter criminal. The action in this first 2-on-1 is a little underwhelming. We’ve been revved up to see what a fully healed Ultra Instinct Goku and Ultra Ego Vegeta can pull off together, only to be reminded of Gas’s status as Strongest in the Universe thanks to Elec’s wish. The chapter ends with a grinning Ultra Ego Vegeta taunting Gas that he only grows stronger as he sustains more damage!
Dragon Ball Super Chapter #84 Verdict:
- Great character moments for Goku and Vegeta.
- Goku recalls both of his parents.
- Bardock’s wish to Toronbo is clarified a little more.
- That ending!
I give Dragon Ball Super Chapter #84 4 out of 5 stars. Gas is still effortlessly handling both Saiyans in their Ultra-forms. The action is a little underwhelming.
