The film adaptation of the Broadway hit Wicked is hitting theaters in 2024.
Universal’s Wicked The Movie has revealed a first look at the upcoming adaption of the hit Broadway play. Starring in the feature film are Ariana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba. The movie is currently in production. Jon M. Chu directs it. He is best known for Crazy Rich Asians and Into The Heights. This Wizard of Oz prequel movie follows Elphaba and Galinda as they attend Shiz University. It will hit theaters on November 27th, 2024. See the photos below.
Wicked is a Broadway musical that debuted in 2003. The show is based on the novel “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West” by Gregory Maguire. It reimagines the story of “The Wizard of Oz” from the perspective of the Wicked Witch of the West, Elphaba. The musical tells the story of Elphaba and her unlikely friendship with the popular and bubbly Glinda, who later becomes the Good Witch of the North. The two girls face discrimination and oppression due to their differences. They have to confront the corrupt government of Oz. With its catchy music, imaginative costumes, and powerful themes of friendship and social justice, Wicked has become one of the most successful and beloved Broadway musicals of all time.
