Twisted Metal TV Series Moving Forward With Anthony Mackie As Lead

Live-Action Twisted Metal series casts Anthony Mackie as John Doe.

Captain America, himself Anthony Mackie, is the new lead of Sony’s Twisted Metal franchise! The newly-promoted Avenger will be trading in his shield and wings for a muscle car! Mackie will star in Sony Pictures Television’s half-hour live-action series based on the beloved Twisted Metal video game franchise. Insiders say Sony TV and Playstation Productions are just about done and ready to pitch the plan to buyers soon!

We’re thrilled to have Anthony Mackie on board. His ability to blend comedy, action and drama is perfect for the Twisted world we’re creating,

Asad Qizilbash, head of Playstation Productions.

Deadpool scribes Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese are writing an original take on the franchise.

The two also collaborated on Deadpool 2 and the Zombieland franchise, which will guarantee plenty of action and non-stop laughs. Mackie will play John Doe, who appeared in the PlayStation 2 original Twisted Metal: Black, an amnesiac milkman who is a smart-aleck with excellent skills behind the wheel. His quest for finding answers and community will send him on a Mad Max-style journey through an onslaught of vehicular violence.

Cobra Kai writer Michael Jonathan Smith will take over duties of writing and executive production. Will Arnett (of Arrested Development and Bojack Horseman fame) will produce with Marc Forman through Electric Avenue’s production company. Anthony Mackie will also Executive Produce.

Anthony Mackie became a household name when he joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Sam Wilson, the Falcon in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. He returned in several of the massively successful sequels. Most recently, he reprised his role in the Disney+ original The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Here, Wilson finally took up the mantle of Captain America and will once again wield his shield in Marvel Studios’ upcoming Captain America 4. He also co-starred with fellow Avenger Jeremy Renner in Best Picture winner The Hurt Locker.

Playstation Productions is endeavoring to bring many PlayStation games to life.

The studio has released films based on the Heavenly Sword and Ratchet & Clank games. A live-action film adaptation of Uncharted starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg is currently in production. In addition to Twisted Metal, a live-action television adaptation of The Last of Us is in production for HBO, led by The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal.
