TRON Celebrates Its 40th Anniversary

TRON was released on July 9th 1982.

Tron turns 40

TRON came out in theaters 40 years ago today. The science fiction action-adventure film was written and directed by Steven Lisberger. The film starred Jeff Bridges, Bruce Boxleitner, David Warner, and Cindy Morgan. During its opening weekend, it grossed $4 million. It went on to accumulate $50 Million globally but was a financial disappointment to Disney. It had a $17 million budget. In 2010, a sequel was released called TRON: Legacy. It starred Jeff Bridges, Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde, and Bruce Boxleitner. An animated series titled TRON: Uprising was released in 2012, which takes place between both films. A third TRON film has been announced, starring Jared Leto.

Synopsis

A brilliant video game maker hacks the mainframe of his former employer. But, when the program fights back, he’s beamed into the game and must win if he wants to make it out alive.
