Trolls Band Together is a vibrant, musical extravaganza with a weak plot.

In my inaugural journey into the Trolls universe, “Trolls Band Together” welcomed me with a rainbow-colored explosion of fun and feels. The CG animation, an outstanding spectacle, immediately caught my attention, weaving a visually vibrant tapestry that brought the characters to life. However, beyond the surface brilliance, the movie’s strength lies primarily in its catchy tunes and the adorable love story between Poppy and Branch, affectionately dubbed #Broppy, making it a must-watch for families.
The film boasts an all-star cast, with Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake reprising their roles as Poppy and Branch. Despite the star power, the electrifying soundtrack and stellar vocal performances steal the show. The chemistry between Kendrick and Timberlake is palpable, and their characters’ journey is sweetly engaging. However, beyond the mesmerizing musical interludes, the movie struggles to maintain interest due to its weak plot.
The storyline centered around Branch’s secret past, and a rescue mission for his kidnapped brother lacks the depth needed to sustain a feature-length film. Boredom crept in between the musical numbers as the plot failed to provide enough substance. The humor, tailored for kids and adults, could have been sharper, leaving parents feeling the drag of a predictable narrative. The standout element is undoubtedly the animation, which captures the whimsical essence of the Trolls world. An impressive voice cast complements the visual appeal, though it’s worth noting that, besides Timberlake and Kendrick, identifying the other voices was challenging.
Verdict
I give Trolls Band Together 3 out of 5 stars. Despite its narrative shortcomings, the film delivers a colorful, family-friendly experience. The film’s predictability might not be a drawback for children, but parents might find themselves wishing for a bit more action and a less formulaic plot. As the holiday season approaches, this musical extravaganza offers a joyful escape, especially for those familiar with the franchise. At the same time, newcomers might find themselves enchanted by the enchanting world of Trolls.
