The Meg sequel coming to theaters this year.

Warner Bros. screened a trailer for this summer’s The Meg 2: The Trench at CinemaCon 2023 today. The footage depicts a megalodon eating a T-Rex, a giant squid, two more megalodons, and star Jason Statham in a mech suit at the bottom of the ocean, running from the Meg. This movie promises even more over-the-top action and crazy gore. The filmmakers may be shooting for an R-rating this time instead of the original’s PG-13. The sequel to 2018’s The Meg is directed by Ben Wheatley and stars Sienna Guillory, Skyler Samuels, and Avatar: The Way of Water star Cliff Curtis. Meg 2 will hit theaters on August 4, 2023.
Jon Turteltaub directed the first film starring Statham. It was based on the 1997 novel “Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror” by Steve Alten. The plot revolves around a team of researchers discovering a giant prehistoric megalodon shark while exploring the depths of the Pacific Ocean. They must work together to stop the shark from wreaking havoc. Statham plays the lead role of Jonas Taylor, a deep-sea rescue diver called upon to save the team when they are trapped at the bottom of the ocean. Statham delivers a convincing performance as the tough, no-nonsense hero, bringing his trademark charisma and physicality to the role.
