The Little Mermaid Makes A Splash At The Box Office

Disney’s live-action The Little Mermaid remake stars Halle Bailey as Ariel.

The Little Mermaid, Disney’s latest live-action adaptation, opened up over Memorial Day weekend with impressive numbers. Since opening on Friday, May 26th, it has accumulated $185,800,000 globally. Domestically it brought it $117,500,000. Coming in behind was Fast X and Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3, all breathing life back into theaters. Rob Marshall, best known for Chicago and Mary Poppins Returns, directed the film starring Halle Bailey as Ariel, Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, Javier Bardem as King Triton, and Melissa McCarthy as Ursula. Synopsis

The youngest of King Triton’s daughters, and the most defiant, Ariel longs to discover more about the world beyond the sea and, while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land, but ultimately places her life — and her father’s crown — in jeopardy.
