The Color Purple is getting another adaptation. This adaptation is based on the novel by Alice Walker and based on the musical stage play, the book (of the musical stage play) by Marsha Norman. The first film was released in 1985, and this bold new take is by Blitz Bazawule. It is produced by Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg, Scott Sanders, and Quincy Jones. It stars Taraji P. Henson, Danielle Brooks, Colman Domingo, Corey Hawkins, H.E.R., Halle Bailey, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, and Fantasia Barrino. It will be in theaters on December 25th, 2023. Watch the trailer below!
Synopsis
documents the traumas and gradual triumph of Celie, an African American teenager raised in rural isolation in Georgia, as she comes to resist the paralyzing self-concept forced on her by others. Celie narrates her life through painfully honest letters to God.
