The Bob’s Burgers Movie – Review

The Belchers come to the big screen in The Bob’s Burgers Movie.

The Bob's Burgers Belchers

After 12 seasons and 238 episodes, you can catch The Bob’s Burger Movie in theaters beginning May 27th. The beloved animated comedy finally makes its way to the big screen. It serves up a ton of great gags and nonstop laughs the show is known for.

Bob's Burgers Movie Family

Bob and Linda struggle with finances as usual, and Gene, Louise, and Tina manage to uncover a murder mystery. The kids are front, and center plot-wise, which works to the film’s advantage as the rapid back and forth between the siblings never fails to elicit tons of laughs. Unfortunately, the dialogue is so rapid-fire at times it can be hard to follow.

All three kids’ storylines are framed through entertaining daydreams that are true to the characters we’ve come to know and love. Tina is in love with Jimmy Jr., Gene wants to play a concert in front of cheering fans, and Louise struggles with a lack of courage.

The musical numbers are enjoyable but don’t quite reach the heights of the show’s best songs like “Work Hard or Die Trying, Girl” or “Taffy Butt.” For as many cameos there are of the show’s numerous characters, there’s also a notable lack of screen time for many fan favorites. Zeke and the twins, Andy and Ollie, hardly have any lines. Bob’s arc- nemesis Jimmy Pesto only appears in the background and doesn’t speak. Linda’s sister Gayle and the old couple who own the arts and crafts shop are also notably absent.

There are some sweet, heartfelt character moments, especially for Louise. Finally, we learn the true backstory behind her trademark bunny-ears cap. It’s a touching moment for her and her father. But, just like the show, the movie finds a way to weave sincerity between the family into its countless laugh-out-loud gags.

Verdict

I give The Bob’s Burgers Movie 3.5 out of 5 stars. If you’re looking for a super-sized episode of Bob’s Burgers, this movie is just what you ordered. It will be in theaters starting this Friday.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.
