The Beanie Bubble is an Apple TV+ Original.

The Beanie Baby bubble is a speculative craze during the late 1990s and early 2000s. It revolves around a line of stuffed animal toys called Beanie Babies. Created by Ty Warner, these small plush animals gained immense popularity due to their limited production runs and adorable designs. As demand for certain rare Beanie Babies skyrocketed, collectors and investors began hoarding them, believing they would become valuable collectibles. Prices for some Beanie Babies surged to astronomical levels, with enthusiasts trading them like commodities in hopes of making huge profits. However, the company started producing more as the market became saturated with these toys. The bubble burst, leading to a significant decline in value. Apple TV+’s upcoming movie will tell that story from a different perspective. The Beanie Bubble begins streaming on July 28th, 2023.
This film is a humorous portrayal of the notorious Beanie Baby craze.
It features an exceptional cast, including Sarah Snook, Elizabeth Banks, Geraldine Viswanathan, and Zach Galifianakis in an almost unrecognizable role. Directed by Kristin Gore and Damian Kulash, the film delves into the madness of the 90s collectibles market. Despite the entertaining concept, several perplexing scenes make keeping up with the storyline challenging.

The movie’s strong point is its portrayal of female figures. They play a crucial role in the success of the Beanie Baby empire. Their struggles and contributions in a male-dominated business world add depth to the story and offer a new perspective on historical events. However, the film’s exploration of the internet-driven business boom of that era can be overwhelming and sometimes detracts from the main narrative, resulting in a disjointed feel.

The physical transformation of Zach Galifianakis in his role is impressive. However, it can sometimes be a bit distracting from the main plot. While the film attempts to provide insight into the Beanie Baby craze, it falls short compared to other documentaries tackling the subject. Some of these documentaries have done a better job of presenting a more comprehensive and informative account of the rise and fall of the Beanie Baby bubble.
Verdict
I give The Beanie Bubble 3 out of 5 stars. Although the film covers a well-known and captivating story, it only touches the surface of the incredible phenomenon that swept the globe. Read more Reviews on Nerdtropolis and Subscribe to our YouTube.
