Super Mario Bros. Movie Slides Into The $1 Billion Club

The Super Mario Bros. Movie hits $1 billion at the box office.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie has grossed $1 Billion after four weeks in theaters. It is the first 2023 movie to cross the first release of 2023 to cross the milestone. Spider-Man: No Way Home, Top Gun: Maverick, Jurassic World Dominion, and Avatar: The Way of Water are the other films that have made $1 billion since the pandemic. The animated film stars Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, and Jack Black as Bowser. Read our Movie Review.

Synopsis

With help from Princess Peach, Mario prepares to square off against the all-powerful Bowser to stop his plans from conquering the world.

In 1993 a live-action movie hit theaters directed by Rocky Morton and Annabel Jankel. The cast included Bob Hoskins as Mario, John Leguizamo as Luigi, and Dennis Hopper as the villainous King Koopa. Despite its all-star cast, the movie was a critical and commercial flop, grossing only $20.9 million in the US against a budget of $48 million. In addition, the movie was heavily criticized for its departure from the source material and poor execution, leading to it being widely regarded as one of the worst video game adaptations of all time.
