Studio Ghibli has shared a pre-teaser featuring the film’s story.

GKIDS has just revealed an exciting pre-teaser for the upcoming Studio Ghibli film, “The Boy and the Heron.” The Academy Award-winning filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki directs it. In an unprecedented move, Studio Ghibli has kept the film’s footage and trailers under wraps until now. This pre-teaser marks the worldwide debut of English-language content from the film. It also announces that the first official English-language teaser trailer will debut from GKIDS next week. The film will have an international premiere at the Opening Night Gala of the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival on September 7. It will have a North American release by GKIDS later this fall. Miyazaki’s return to feature filmmaking after a decade-long hiatus is a huge event for Studio Ghibli enthusiasts worldwide.
This hand-drawn feature is written and directed by Studio Ghibli co-founder Hayao Miyazaki. It is produced by his long-time partner Toshio Suzuki. It features a musical score by Miyazaki’s frequent collaborator Joe Hisaishi, and a theme song, “Spinning Globe,” performed by global J-pop sensation Kenshi Yonezu.
