Speed Racer series will not be connected to the live-action film.

Speed Racer is getting another live-action adaptation. A series for Apple TV is in the works from J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot, and Warner Bros. Snowpiercers Hiram Martinez and Westworld’s Ron Fitzgerald will be writing the script focused on the source material from the 1960s cartoon. It was known as Mach GoGoGo as a manga series before it made the jump to TV as an anime series. A live-action film adaptation of Speed Racer was released in 2008. It was written and directed by The Matrix’s The Wachowskis. The film starred Emile Hirsch, Matthew Fox, Christina Ricci, Susan Sarandon, and John Goodman. It only grossed $93 million worldwide on a $120 million budget.
