Smile from Paramount Picured held its World Premiere at Fantastic Fest.

Paramount Pictures’ upcoming horror movie, Smile, held its World Premiere at Fantastic Fest 2022. It is written and directed by Parker Finn and is loosely adapted from his 2020 short horror film Laura Hasn’t Slept. The film stars Sosie Bacon, the daughter of Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick, who was in attendance to show their support. The cast also featured Jessie T. Usher, known for his role as A-Train in The Boys, with Kal Penn, best known for Harold and Kumar. For those in Houston, you can attend an Advance Screening of Smile!
Synopsis
In Smile, after witnessing a bizarre, traumatic incident involving a patient, Dr. Rose Cotter (Sosie Bacon) starts experiencing frightening occurrences that she can’t explain. As an overwhelming terror begins taking over her life, Rose must confront her troubling past to survive and escape her horrifying new reality.
Smile is a heart-pounding flick that may not sit well with non-horror fans who may have to calm their nerves as soon as the film concludes. Even though Smile does not deliver anything new to the genre, the mystery horror flick will put audiences on the edge of their seats. It is creepy, gory, and at times shocking. The almost 2-hour film is filled with plenty of jump scares you can see coming from a mile away but will still make you jolt. I enjoyed the director’s decision to use practical effects over CGI, which shows his admiration for horror.
Additionally, utilizing a Smile as the basis of the film’s plot was nightmarish. Finally, as the frantic lead character, Bacon delivered an outstanding performance. As she tries to solve what is happening, where this entity came from, and what it wants, she conveys distress, hysteria, and self-realization.
Verdict
I give Smile 4 out of 5 Stars. It was the most terrifying and anxiety-filled experience since The Blair Witch Project! Catch it in theaters on September 30th. Do you Vouch for it? Read more Reviews on Nerdtropolis and Subscribe to our YouTube.
