Smurfs Movie From Paramount To Feature Rihanna As Smurfette

A new Smurfs movie is coming in 2025.

The Smurfs Movie was announced at the CinemaCon at the Paramount panel. Rihanna was on stage to share she will be voicing Smurfette. This film is a joint effort with Paramount and Nickelodeon. Rihanna will also be a producer and provide original songs. The Smurfs, created by Belgian cartoonist Peyo in 1958, is a beloved group of small, blue creatures that have captured young and old audiences’ hearts. Over the years, the Smurfs have appeared in numerous comic books, television shows, and films, cementing their place in popular culture. Chris Miller will co-direct the new film with Matt Lando. It will be in theaters on February 14, 2025.

About The Smurfs

They are known for their unique personalities and distinct appearances, each having a specific role within their village. The wise and respected leader, Papa Smurf, is often seen as the group’s father figure. Smurfette is the only kind and nurturing female, while Brainy Smurf is intelligent but often overbearing. Other notable characters include the clumsy but well-meaning Clumsy Smurf, the grumpy Grouchy Smurf, and the lazy but loveable Lazy Smurf.

Feature Films

In 2011, a live-action/animated hybrid film was released, which starred Neil Patrick Harris and Hank Azaria. The film grossed over $563 million worldwide and was followed by a sequel in 2013. Both films were met with mixed reviews, with critics praising the voice performances and visuals but criticizing the storylines. In 2021, a new animated film titled The Lost Village was released. This film follows Smurfette and her friends as they journey through the Forbidden Forest to discover a mysterious lost village. Unfortunately, while the film received positive reviews, it underperformed at the box office, grossing only $197 million worldwide.

In addition to the films, the Smurfs have also had a successful television presence. In 2021, Nickelodeon premiered a new animated series that follows their adventures as they explore the world beyond their village. The series has been praised for its updated animation style and voice acting. The Smurfs remain a beloved and iconic part of popular culture. With their unique personalities and timeless appeal, it’s no wonder that they’ve been entertaining audiences for over six decades.
