Puss In Boots: The Last Wish – Movie Review

Puss In Boots returns for his best movie.

Antonio Banderas returns for a new Puss In Boots adventure. The Last Wish is the long-awaited follow-up to the 2011 Academy Award-nominated blockbuster. It is directed by Joel Crawford and stars Antonio Banderas and Selma Hayek. The film also features the voices of  Olivia Colman, Ray Winstone, Samson Kayo, Anthony Mendez, and Tony nominee Da’Vine Joy Randolph.

Synopsis

Puss in Boots discovers that his passion for peril and disregard for safety have taken their toll. He has burned through eight of his nine lives, though he lost count. Getting those lives back will send him on his grandest quest yet, a journey into the Black Forest. to find the mythical Wishing Star and restore his lost lives.

Antonio Banderas once again brings Puss In Boots to life in this sequel. I could not imagine anyone else voicing the iconic feline that first made his appearance in Shrek 2. This follow-up to the 2011 movie brings back Salma Hayek as Kitty Softpaws. This film is far superior to its predecessor as it aims at all ages with its colorful fairy tale world and jokes that adults will really enjoy.

Additionally, the use of dynamic animation was refreshing and made it stand out from what we usually see from DreamWorks and the Shrek franchise. This movie is full of action from start to end. The fight scenes are exhilarating, and the interwinding of classic fairytale characters and easter eggs featuring IPs from competitor studios are amusing. Of course, no one will expect this movie to be this good, but it is. There is plenty of emotional and “awe” moments to tug at the heartstrings. It is easily the second-best animated film behind Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio.

Verdict

I give Puss In Boots: The Last Wish 4 out of 5 stars. The legendary feline fairy tale is a family-friendly and colorful journey that will hit theaters on December 23rd.  Read more Reviews on Nerdtropolis and Subscribe to our YouTube.
