Pet Sematary: Bloodlines – Movie Review

Pet Sematary: Bloodlines unearths the dark origins of Ludlow.

In 2019, Paramount+ dropped a new Pet Sematary movie, which terrified audiences with its eerie and gruesome visuals. Based on Stephen King’s chilling novel, the movie took viewers on a harrowing journey into the supernatural horrors that lurked in the seemingly idyllic town of Ludlow, Maine. In this prequel from director Lindsey Anderson Beer, “Pet Sematary: Bloodlines,” takes the audience deeper into the dark past and disturbing mythology that haunts this cursed town. Check out my interview with director Lindsey Beer.

The film transports us back to the year 1969. This is when a young Jud Crandall, portrayed by the talented Jackson White, is yearning to escape the clutches of Ludlow. However, his dreams to leave are put on hold as he uncovers sinister secrets within the town’s history. Jud’s exploration of his family’s dark past forces him to confront a chilling truth. Ludlow is not just a town with a cursed burial ground, it is a place teeming with evil forces that date back to its founding.

This prequel introduces us to a group of childhood friends.

They are played by Forrest Goodluck, Jack Mulhern, and Henry Thomas. They encounter the ancient evil that has plagued Ludlow for centuries. As they unearth the town’s sinister secrets, they realize that this evil has the power to obliterate everything in its path. With Natalie Alyn Lind, Isabella Star LaBlanc, Samantha Mathis, Pam Grier, and David Duchovny rounding out the talented cast, the film promises an unforgettable and spine-chilling experience.

What sets “Pet Sematary: Bloodlines” apart from its predecessor is its relentless dive into the origins of Ludlow’s curse. While the 2019 film was disturbing, this prequel takes us to the very heart of the darkness that permeates the town. We look closer at the mysterious burial ground and the unholy forces that have tainted it. The result is a movie not for the faint of heart. It is a visceral and blood-soaked journey into the heart of horror. This film left me thoroughly unsettled from the very beginning with gruesome visuals that will make your skin crawl. The eerie atmosphere is impeccably crafted, keeping you on the edge of your seat.

Verdict

I give “Pet Sematary: Bloodlines” 3.5 out of 5 stars. For Stephen King fans, it offers a unique opportunity to delve deeper into the lore. It promises to be an eerie experience that will frighten audiences. You will eagerly anticipate what lies ahead in the dark and twisted world of Ludlow. If you dare to uncover Ludlow’s curse’s origins, then catch it on Paramount+ starting October 6th.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.
