On A Wing And A Prayer – Movie Review

On A Wing and a Prayer is now streaming on Prime Video.

Dennis Quaid and Heather Graham with dead pilot in On a Wing and a Prayer.

Amazon Studio has two films hitting theaters this week, Air and On A Wing and a Prayer. Both are true stories and can be watched over Easter weekend. However, only this film starring Dennis Quaid, Heather Graham, and Jesse Metcalfe is available on Prime Video. It is based on a truly miraculous story of a family that had their pilot die while in the air, and Quaid’s character Doug White has to land the plane. I spoke to Mr. White himself and producer Roma Downey, who is best known for her role in Touched by an Angel. Watch my interview below!

Synopsis

Passenger Doug White’s (Dennis Quaid) harrowing journey to safely land a plane and save his entire family from insurmountable danger after their pilot dies unexpectedly mid-flight.

Many faith-based films rarely receive major releases, but finally, one is coming out, thanks to Amazon Studios. On a Wing and a Prayer will appeal to all types of audiences because the story of Doug White is true. Dennis Quaid does a great job portraying the father and husband who has his family’s lives in his hands. His performance is powerful and outshines everyone else, even Heather Graham and Jesse Metcalf, whose characters help White’s mentality and operate the plane in distress.

This unbelievable story put me in nail-biter mode as the events unfolded on screen. It is an eye-opening and compelling movie showcasing that pilots have tough jobs. We get multiple perspectives of everyone from different locations assisting White in landing the plane without casualties. Unfortunately, where the movie takes a wrong turn is adding another scary element that occurs to one of the daughters, which adds unnecessary drama. The movie has spiritual elements, but it’s not forced. However, it does showcase a close family of strong faith.

Verdict

I give On a Wing and a Prayer 3.5 out of 5 stars. This film has a lot of built-up tension and is nowhere near a stereotypical faith-based film. It is a great watch over Easter Weekend. Watch it now on Prime Video. Read more Reviews on Nerdtropolis and Subscribe to our YouTube.
