My Spy – Movie Review (Spoiler Free)

My Spy is now available on Prime Video.

My Spy is about JJ, a hardened CIA operative (Dave Bautista). who gets demoted. He finds himself at the mercy of a precocious 9-year-old girl named Sophie (Chloe Coleman). When Sophie discovers hidden cameras in her apartment, she uses her tech-savviness to locate where the surveillance operation is set. In exchange for not blowing JJ’s cover, Sophie convinces him to spend time with her and teach her to be a spy. Despite his reluctance, JJ finds he is no match for Sophie’s disarming charm and wit.

I honestly had no interest in watching this movie in theaters or digitally. Prime Video added My Spy to its free movie list a few weeks ago, and I still passed on it until last night. I finally decided to give this movie a chance, and I am glad I did. Dave Bautista has already proven himself as a solid actor, and his comedic roles are the ones I love best, such as Drax in Guardians Of The Galaxy and Stuber.

Despite the lackluster trailers that did more damage than good, My Spy is a charming movie that the whole family can enjoy. It will put a smile on your face and let you escape the times that we are currently in. Chloe Coleman is adorable as a mischievous and clever 11 year that has great chemistry with Bautista. Watching their relationship build throughout the movie was heartwarming and accompanied by many laughs.

Verdict

I give My Spy a 7.5/10 and recommend moving this flick up on your watch list and making it a family movie night. Read more spoiler-free movie reviews on Nerdtropolis. Watch My Spy for free on Amazon Prime Video.
