Parasite Won 4 Oscars and made history!

Apparently, I am no stranger to the work of Bong Joon-ho, realizing he directed Snowpiercer starring Chris Evans in 2013 which I really enjoyed and recommend. Parasite is a movie that surprised many during award season but after finally watching this movie I now see why it won an Academy Award for Best Picture.

Meet the Park Family: the picture of aspirational wealth. And the Kim Family, rich in street smarts but not much else. Be it chance or fate, these two houses are brought together and the Kims sense a golden opportunity. Masterminded by college-aged Ki-woo, the Kim children expediently install themselves as tutor and art therapist, to the Parks. Soon, a symbiotic relationship forms between the two families. The Kims provide “indispensable” luxury services while the Parks obliviously bankroll their entire household. When a parasitic interloper threatens the Kims’ newfound comfort, a savage, underhanded battle for dominance breaks out, threatening to destroy the fragile ecosystem between the Kims and the Parks. By turns darkly hilarious and heart-wrenching, PARASITE showcases a modern master at the top of his game.

Bong Joon Ho delivers a pitch-black modern fairytale.

This was the first time in a long time that I did not have my phone in my vicinity while watching a movie at home. Because this movie has subtitles and was praised to be so great, I decided it needed my undivided attention and I succeeded in doing so. Sitting at 2 hours and 12 minutes I was completely sucked in. You could say this movie is a comedy that turns dark that is filled with laughs, thrills, and suspense while delivering a message about class discrimination. Many great movies can also be predictable but I found myself on a roller coaster ride full of twists and turns, and plenty of uncertainty. With great acting all around and amazing cinematography, you are in for a film-going experience.

I give Parasite a 9.5/10 and recommend you give it a watch on digital during our time of social distancing.
