|Movie Review| Like A Boss (Spoiler Free)

The 2020 movie season is in full swing and the latest female-led comedy is hitting theaters January 10th which tackles entrepreneurship and lifelong friendships. Like A Boss stars Tiffany Haddish and Rose Byrne as best friends Mia and Mel who are living their best lives running their own cosmetics company they’ve built from the ground up. They’re in over their heads financially, and the prospect of a big buyout offer from a notorious titan of the cosmetics industry Claire Luna played by Salma Hayek proves too tempting to pass up, putting Mel and Mia’s lifelong friendship in jeopardy.

This movie has an amazing cast with great talent, but it isn’t enough to save this film. The failure is in the writing and directing, which made this movie fall flat. The jokes are sub-par and don’t really land high on the funny meter. The writing team seemed to have come from nowhere with zero experience and the director himself has no highpoints in his directing career and all of that showed. Tiffany Haddish should have been in the writer’s room to make sure the laughs were solid and nonstop. Many of the scenes throughout were pointless and did not drive the plot forward.

This movie is simply not the greatest comedy but at 1 hour and 23 minutes, you can definitely burn some time before dinner with the girls or your significant other. I give Like a Boss a 4 out of 10.
