Melinda Dillon passed away last month, with her family just now sharing the news.

Melinda Dillon of a Christmas Story Passes Away

Melinda Dillon, best known as Ralphie’s mom in A Christmas Story, has passed away. She was 83 and passed on January 9th, 2023, according to her family, who just announced the news today. She was a two-time Oscar nominee in the Best Actress in a Supporting Role category for Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Absence of Malice.

Dillon starred in Bound for Glory, Slap Shot, Magnolia, Captain America (1990), and Harry and the Hendersons. Her other credits include April Fools, F.I.S.T., Transplant, Marriage Is Alive and Well, Fallen Angel, Right of Way, Songwriter, Shattered Spirits, Nightbreaker, Spontaneous Combustion, Staying Together, The Prince of Tides, State of Emergency, To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar, The Effects of Magic, Cowboy Up, and Debating Robert Lee.
