Luca Is The Latest Movie To Skip Theaters

Disney and Pixar’s Luca is now streaming on Disney+

Disney and Pixar’s original feature film “Luca” was slated to hit theaters but is now streaming on Disney+. After last year’s Soul, the bar was set high for Pixar’s next project. Does it live up to the Disney/Pixar hype?

Synopsis

Set in a beautiful seaside town on the Italian Riviera, Disney and Pixar’s original feature film “Luca” is a coming-of-age story about one young boy experiencing an unforgettable summer filled with gelato, pasta and endless scooter rides. Luca shares these adventures with his newfound best friend, but all the fun is threatened by a deeply-held secret: they are sea monsters from another world just below the water’s surface.

Luca is a short film stretched into a theatrical feature. Unfortunately this movie never made it to the big screen and was dumped onto Disney+. It is a cute and vibrant film filled with beautiful landscapes. Luca is sweet and charming as it immerses you in Italian culture. Kids will find it engaging but Parent’s may struggle to sit alongside to watch. This animated film won’t become memorable but it is a nice addition to the Disney+ library.

Verdict

I give Luca a 7.5 out of 10, which is not very high for a Pixar film. I do recommend the Pixar Short La Luna for those that want to visit another Italian seaside story.
