Joy Ride – Movie Review

Joy Ride delivers a lot of shocking moments.

“Joy Ride” is a road trip movie produced by the same people who made “Neighbors” and written by one of the screenwriters of “Crazy Rich Asians.” It follows four Asian-American friends on their journey and stars Ashley Park, Sherry Cola, Stephanie Hsu, and Sabrina Wu. Also starring are Desmond Chiam, Ronny Chieng, and Baron Davis. The film is directed by Adele Lim, who is making her directorial debut. Joy Ride will be in theaters on July 7th, 2023.

Synopsis

The hilarious and unapologetically explicit story of identity and self-discovery centers on four unlikely friends who embark on a once-in-a-lifetime international adventure. When Audrey’s (Park) business trip to Asia goes sideways, she enlists the aid of Lolo (Cola), her irreverent childhood best friend who also happens to be a hot mess; Kat (Hsu), her college friend turned Chinese soap star; and Deadeye (Wu), Lolo’s eccentric cousin. Their no-holds-barred, epic experience becomes a journey of bonding, friendship, belonging, and wild debauchery that reveals the universal truth of what it means to know and love who you are.

It’s been some time since a movie franchise like The Hangover has made its way to our screens. Thankfully, Joy Ride brings back the R-rated, raunchy, and wild comedies. This movie goes beyond limits and provides plenty of shocking moments. Along with the nonstop laughs, it delivers a heartwarming and emotional story about friendship. The four lead actors have amazing chemistry together, and Ashley Park, Sherry Cola, Stephanie Hsu, and Sabrina Wu deliver heartfelt performances and offer something different from one another. Wu’s character may become a fan favorite, and Hsu’s storyline will surely surprise everyone. This movie will remind viewers of the classic comedies featuring drugs, nudity, and gross humor that have been missing from the film industry for quite some time.

Verdict

I give Joy Ride 4 out of 5 stars. This movie will have you laughing uncontrollably and shedding tears. It’s a pleasant surprise and is sure to become a classic adult comedy. I am eagerly anticipating the return of this squad in a sequel. Read more Reviews on Nerdtropolis and Subscribe to our YouTube.
