Joker: Folie à Deux is the title of the sequel.
Previously it was announced that Joker was getting a sequel titled Folie à Deux. Joaquin Phoenix and Todd Phillips announced the news on Instagram. The post showed Phoenix reading the new script, where the title was also revealed. Later it was reported that Lady Gaga would star alongside Phoenix’s Joker as Harley Quinn. Additionally, it has been said it will have a musical aspect and take place at Arkham Asylum. The release date is October 4th, 2024. That is five years since the first film hit theaters. The 2019 movie grossed over a billion dollars despite being Rated R. Phoenix’s pay for the sequel will be $20 Million. Warner Bros announced the new release date in the wake of the canceling of Batgirl.
Director Todd Phillip’s “Joker” centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone fictional story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck, who Joaquin Phoenix indelibly portrays, is of a man struggling to find his way in Gotham’s fractured society. A clown-for-hire by day, he aspires to be a stand-up comic at night but finds the joke always seems to be on him. Caught in a cyclical existence between apathy and cruelty, Arthur makes one bad decision that brings about a chain reaction of escalating events in this gritty character study.
