takes viewers back to 1920s Shanghai where the Wing family first meets the young Mogwai called Gizmo. Sam Wing (future shop owner Mr. Wing in the 1984 “Gremlins” film) accepts the dangerous task to take Gizmo home and embarks on a journey through the Chinese countryside. Sam and Gizmo are joined by a teenage street thief named Elle. Together, they encounter and sometimes battle colorful monsters and spirits from Chinese folklore. Along their quest, they are pursued by a power-hungry industrialist and his growing army of evil Gremlins.

The classic horror-comedy movie franchise debuted in the 1980s.

It captured the hearts of movie-goers. The franchise consists of two movies, Gremlins (1984) and Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990), directed by Joe Dante. The first movie, Gremlins, tells the story of a young man named Billy (played by Zach Galligan) who receives a mysterious creature called a Mogwai as a Christmas gift from his father. The Mogwai, named Gizmo, has three essential rules. You don’t expose him to bright light, don’t get him wet, and never feed him after midnight. But, of course, these rules are broken. Chaos is then ensued as Gizmo spawns a horde of mischievous and dangerous Gremlins.

The film is a blend of horror, comedy, and Christmas cheer, making it a unique addition to the holiday movie canon. The Gremlins are terrifying and hilarious, with their penchant for destruction and goofy antics. The film also features memorable performances from Galligan, Phoebe Cates, and Hoyt Axton, as well as a fantastic score by Jerry Goldsmith.

The success of Gremlins led to the release of a sequel, Gremlins 2: The New Batch.

It takes the zaniness of the original to a whole new level. The sequel takes place in a skyscraper in New York City, where Billy and Gizmo have relocated. Unfortunately, the Gremlins, now even more varied and bizarre than before, wreak havoc on the building and its inhabitants.

One of the most notable aspects of Gremlins 2 is its self-awareness and sense of humor. The film frequently breaks the fourth wall and pokes fun at its absurdity. It also features cameos from actors and pop culture figures, including Leonard Maltin, Hulk Hogan, and John Wayne. To this day, the franchise remains a beloved classic of 1980s cinema. So whether you’re watching for the first time or revisiting these mischievous creatures, Gremlins will surely entertain and delight.
