The story begins with two best friends, Sonny and Sam, played by Jeremy Ray Taylor and Caleel Harris. They discover a hidden “Haunted Halloween” manuscript in a long-abandoned house. Unbeknownst to them, the manuscript once belonged to the renowned author R.L. Stine, containing powerful magic. When they unwittingly unlock its secrets, they release Slappy the Dummy, whos is voiced by Jack Black, who also portrayed R.L. Stine in the first film.
Slappy, ever the mischievous puppet, hatches a diabolical plan to bring Halloween to life in a terrifying way. His mission is nothing less than causing a Halloween Apocalypse, where monstrous creatures come to life and wreak havoc upon the town. The boys must now team up with Sonny’s older sister, Sarah (Madison Iseman), and R.L. Stine to stop Slappy’s wicked plot before it’s too late.
The sequel captures the essence of the beloved book series.
It blends horror elements with humor to create an entertaining and family-friendly Halloween adventure. The film delivers its fair share of jump scares and eerie creatures while maintaining a lighthearted tone that makes it accessible to a younger audience. One of the film’s standout features is its impressive visual effects, which bring the various monsters to life colorfully and imaginatively. The special effects team remarkably translated Stine’s ghoulish creations to the big screen, from gummy bears that grow to enormous sizes to a life-sized werewolf. Jack Black’s return as R.L. Stine and the voice of Slappy adds a delightful layer of nostalgia for fans of the original film. His witty and eccentric performance as the author trying to save the town highlights the movie.
While “Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween” might not have reached the same critical acclaim as its predecessor, it continued the tradition of bringing the spooky, imaginative world of R.L. Stine to life. The film serves as a fun and spooky treat for Halloween. It combines humor and family-friendly horror in a way that will have you and your family laughing and shivering in your seats.
