Frozen Empire marks the triumphant return of the Spengler family.
They return to the iconic New York City firehouse where it all began. However, this time they are not alone, as they join forces with the original Ghostbusters – Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Raymond Stantz (Dan Aykroyd), Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson), and Egon Spengler (the late Harold Ramis in a posthumous appearance), who have established a top-secret research lab to advance their ghost-busting capabilities.
This exciting collaboration between the Ghostbusters generations is director Gil Kenan’s brainchild.
He has woven together the franchise’s past, present, and future. Co-written by Kenan and Jason Reitman, son of the original film’s director, Ivan Reitman, the film pays homage to the 1984 classic while blazing a new trail. The Spengler family, played by Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, and Mckenna Grace, finds themselves in a race against time when the accidental discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil force capable of plunging the world into a second Ice Age. As temperatures plummet and ghostly apparitions run amok in New York City, the fate of humanity hangs in the balance.
Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, Celeste O’Connor, and Logan Kim are joining the ensemble cast. Also, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson reprise their roles as Ray Stantz and Winston Zeddemore. Their return will undoubtedly evoke nostalgia in fans who have cherished the Ghostbusters saga since its inception. “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” weaves together the elements that have made the franchise a fan favorite for nearly four decades.
