Free Guy Is A Fun “Video Game” Movie That Deserves A Sequel

Free Guy is Grand Theft Auto meets Ready Player One!

Free Guy is finally coming to theaters on August 13th after being delayed multiple times. It stars Ryan Reynolds, Jodie Comer, Lil Rel Howery, Joe Keery, and Taika Waititi. You can watch in theaters on August 13th 2021 or you can watch an advance screening on August 11th here. This movie will surprise you with how charming it is.

A bank teller who discovers he is actually a background player in an open-world video game, decides to become the hero of his own story…one he rewrites himself. Now in a world where there are no limits, he is determined to be the guy who saves his world his way… before it is too late.

When you combine Grand Theft Auto with Ready Player One, Scott Pilgrim, and even Grandma’s Boy, you get Free Guy. You may think that may be a bad thing, but it actually is not. It is a type of movie I wish we got more often. I really enjoy this sub-genre of films as it is visually entertaining. Ryan Reynolds and Lil Rel are so great and adorable on-screen together, and it made me wanting more of them. The rest of the cast is excellent, but Taika Waititi’s performance raised some eyebrows with his over-the-top and cheezy it was, but it seemed purposeful. There are some fun cameos, pleasant surprises, and tons of easter-eggs throughout the film to put a smile on your face. Free Guy will surprise many people and will remind you how much we need Ryan Reynolds in movies!

I give Free Guy an 8 out of 10 and hope this opens the door for a sequel or some type of spin-off with Disney’s blessing.
