Flora And Ulysses Movie Review (Spoiler Free)

Flora and Ulysses is a fun super-hero film with tons of comic book nods!

Disney+ has added another family-friendly film for all to enjoy with Flora and Ulysses. This cute movie will be something that parents will be able to get through with ease while watching with their little ones. This film is an adaptation of Kate DiCamillo’s novel of the same name. DiCamillo is also known for “Because of Winn-Dixie” and “The Tale of Despereaux” which were adapted into feature films.

Synopsis

Flora and Ulysses is a delightful comedy-adventure based on the Newbery Award-winning book about 10-year-old Flora. She is an avid comic book fan and a self-avowed cynic, whose parents have recently separated. After rescuing a squirrel she names Ulysses, Flora is amazed to discover he possesses unique superhero powers which take them on an adventure of humorous complications that ultimately change Flora’s life–and her outlook–forever.

If you are looking for a new superhero flick this weekend, I recommend watching Flora And Ulysses on Disney+. It is no masterpiece but a great diversion for the entire family. Flora, played by Matilda Lawler, is an ambitious 10-year old that comes off as an adult in a small body, who is trying to navigate life, while her parents, played by Alyson Hannigan (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Ben Schwartz (Sonic the Hedgehog) deal with their life post-separation. The entire cast is great, and fun throughout and features some of my favorite comedic actors such as Danny Pudi, Kate Micucci, and Bobby Moynihan. Ulysses the CGI super-squirrel will be enamored by young kids and the Marvel Comics Easter eggs will keep older audiences entertained.

Verdict

I give Flora and Ulysses a 7 out of 10. I encourage gathering all the little ones and comic book lovers in your house to watch this one together.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.
