E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial Celebrates Its 40th Anniversary

Steve Spielberg’s E.T. hit theaters 40 years ago today.

E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial from director Steven Spielberg hit theaters on June 11th, 1982. The film starred Henry Thomas, Dee Wallace, Peter Coyote, Robert MacNaughton, and Drew Barrymore. Fans of the movie and first-time watchers can experience this classic in the theater. Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment announced that E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial will be released exclusively on IMAX on August 12th.

Synopsis

A story of a special friendship that develops between Elliott, a lonely young boy living in a
suburban California community, and a wise, benevolent visitor from another planet that becomes stranded on Earth. As Elliott attempts to help his extra-terrestrial friend contact his home planet so that he might be rescued, they must elude scientists and government agents determined to apprehend
the alien for their own purposes…which results in an adventure greater than anything either of them could have imagined.
