Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves – Movie Review

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is a fantastic adaptation of the role-playing game.

The new DnD movie Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves had its World Premiere during SXSW opening night at the Paramount Theater. In attendance from the cast was Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Regé-Jean Page, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis, Daisy Head, and Hugh Grant. Also in attendance were Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, the film’s directors. The duo was behind writing Spider-Man: Homecoming. Daley is best known for his starring role in Freaks and Geeks.

Synopsis

A charming thief and a band of unlikely adventurers undertake an epic heist to retrieve a lost relic, but things go dangerously awry when they run afoul of the wrong people. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves brings the legendary roleplaying game’s rich world and playful spirit to the big screen in a hilarious and action-packed adventure.

Fans of the roleplaying game will get satisfaction from the latest blockbuster to hit theaters on March 31st. Whether or not you are familiar with the IP, this film is for everyone. You will be pulled into an old-fashioned fantasy adventure filled with nostalgia. The creatures you encounter look great, thanks to a mixture of sharp CGI and practical effects that look like a product from Jim Henson himself. Every central character in the movie has plenty of moments to shine. What is so great about this Dungeons & Dragons movie is the cast. It is so diverse, and everyone brings something different.

Pine delivers a charming and charismatic performance and has a lot of great jokes at his own expense. Rodriguez is a force to be reckoned with as the group’s muscle. She is in great action scenes that showcase her might and strength. Sophia Lillis and Justice Smith bring innocent charm to their characters. They are the most relatable and have the greatest powers. Hugh Grant seemed to have the most fun in this movie. His character is the most eccentric and ridiculously funny. The most stand-out cast member was Regé-Jean Page, the perfect DnD character that every man wants to be and every woman swoons. Finally, the director/writer duo did a great job not taking the film too seriously while delivering high stakes, big action sequences, plenty of DnD callbacks, and emotion.

Verdict

I give Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves 4 out of 5 stars. It is spectacular and fun, filled with many great action sequences, hilarious jokes, and many Easter Eggs. Read more Reviews on Nerdtropolis and Subscribe to our YouTube.
