Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero Releasing This Summer

Toei Animation has revealed new clips and art from the upcoming film Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero! Four long years since the last animated entry in the Dragon Ball canon, we are barely two months away from Super Hero releasing in theatres in Japan on April 22, 2022. The Broly sequel will release in North America later this summer.

The first clip depicts Adult Gohan in his Namekian garb confronting the movie’s villains, Dr. Hedo, and his androids, Gamma 1 and Gamma 2. Gohan is wearing his glasses until he throws them off and transforms into a Super Saiyan. Another clip depicts Dr. Hedo in a cape and jumpsuit. The next one shows Piccolo face off against Gamma 2.

All these clips give us a better look at the film’s new CG animation art style. It’s an update to Broly’s Shintani art style that many fans loved. Will this new art style continue when and if the Dragon Ball Super anime returns (which it almost certainly will given there are still two full sagas to adapt in the manga)?

Another notable aspect of the new art is that Trunks and Goten are teenagers now! The two fan-favorite characters are still children in the anime and manga, so this will be the first canonical look at what the two teens are like in quite a while. Are they still getting into mischief together? Will we see a Teen Gotenks fusion? Only a few more months until Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero premieres!
