The first Dragon Ball Super Manga chapter of 2022 is here!
In Dragon Ball Super Chapter #80 twists and transformations abound as the Granolah the Survivor arc draws closer and closer to its conclusion. Goku and Vegeta continue to root for Granolah from the sidelines as the two Dragon-wish-infused warriors duke it out.
Things initially look hopeful for the Saiyans’ newest ally. Gas’s brother Oil lays it out clearly, “Gas might be stronger, but he’s losing in the skills department.” Granolah continues using his faster-than-instant-transmission speed to dominate Gas, causing the villain to become more and more enraged. We get a brief glimpse of his muscles bulging as he vows to figure out Granolah’s moves.
This leads to a shocking revelation: Gas has been wearing a control mechanism this whole time.
The device is similar to the one Paragus placed on his son, Broly, to keep him from unlocking his dangerous Legendary Super Saiyan potential. Big brother Elec removes Gas’s fang head adornment so he can release his full potential as the “strongest in the universe.”
Gas’s final form looks like the Saiyan Ape transformation mixed with The Predator.
The Heeter siblings fear his Berserker mode would lead to a repeat of an incident 40 years ago. Their fears come true as their enraged brother goes wild and attacks everyone, including them. Somewhat unbelievably, they survive his onslaught.
He also attacks Goku and, with one look at the Saiyan, who is canonically the spitting image of his father, immediately has flashbacks to his losing fight with Bardock 40 years prior. Interestingly, this calms him down. He lands on the ground, muscles shrunk and re-clothed, with a clear mind and his full potential unlocked. The next issue should show Gas as a force to be reckoned with!
Pros:
- Great action with plenty of twists and turns.
- Gas attacking his siblings makes him scary and threatening.
Cons:
- Recycled plot points from Broly and Goku’s transformation history.
- I want to see more of Bardock’s backstory already!
