Cocaine Bear is based on a true story and could be the whackiest film of the year.

Cocaine Bear drew inspiration from a 1985 story of a drug runner’s plane crash, missing cocaine, and the black bear that ate it. The Dark comedy stars Keri Russel, O’Shea Jackson, Jr., Christian Convery, and Alden Ehrenreich. It also features Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Brooklynn Prince, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Kristofer Hivju, Hannah Hoekstra, Aaron Holliday, and the late Ray Liotta. Elizabeth Banks directs this film. It will be in theaters on February 24th, 2023.
Synopsis
The story is about a drug runner’s plane crash, missing cocaine, and the black bear that ate it. This wild dark comedy finds an oddball group of cops, criminals, tourists, and teens converging in a Georgia forest, where a 500-pound apex predator has ingested a staggering amount of cocaine and gone on a coke-fueled rampage for more blow and blood.
Cocaine Bear knows what type of movie it is. The dark comedy throws in a handful of prominent actors and a CGI bear and lets the 95 minutes of hilarity roll. To my surprise, the bear that goes on a coke-fueled rampage for more blow and blood mostly looks convincing. The cast is impressive, but the film is bloated with dozens of characters, which means there is a high kill count. There is no fleshing out of these characters but plenty of flesh-tearing. The R-Rating was indeed earned with shocking scenes that make you squirm yet chuckle. However, this film could have a better script with more substance. The premise relies too much on a single joke about the bear’s substance abuse, which is replayed in various ways throughout the movie. This B- movie makes for a fun Friday night but is easy to forget about the next day.
Verdict
I give Cocaine Bear 3 out of 5 stars. The unbelievable story is filled with nonstop laughs and shocking scenes that make for a great escape. Read more Reviews on Nerdtropolis and Subscribe to our YouTube.
Even with the 3 ⭐️ rating, I really want to see it!
