Blacklight Starring Liam Neeson - Movie Review

Blacklight stars the 69-year-old Liam Neeson owns this action/mystery genre. For so many years, he has been seen in similar movies like the Taken trilogy, The Grey, Non-Stop, Run All Night, The Commuter, Cold Pursuit, Honest Thief, and last year’s The Marksman. Neeson has said that he wants to wrap up his action-film career, but we are with Blacklight. You can catch this movie in theaters beginning February1th.

Synopsis

Liam Neeson stars as Travis Block in the tense action thriller Blacklight. It is about a freelance government operative living on the fringes and coming to terms with his shadowy past. However, when he discovers an undercover team that’s targeting U.S. citizens, Block finds himself in the crosshairs of the FBI director he once helped protect. But as Block attempts redemption by enlisting a journalist to get the truth out, his daughter and granddaughter are threatened, and a danger that has existed on the margins.

This film features the same Neeson-Esque character with a particular set of skills as seen in all his movies. If that is the formula you enjoy, this film is one to watch. Neeson has become the Charles Bronson and Clint Eastwood of this genre. Never knowing when to stop. But at his age, it is pretty impressive and admirable.

Unfortunately, he is the one that carries this film on his back. There isn’t much suspense or surprises with such a straightforward plot. Moreover, the obvious villain played by Adam Quinn is a bore. He does not seem to put in any effort in his performance. However, we get a familiar face in this movie if you are a fan of Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy, Emmy Raver-Lampman, who provided additional talent alongside Neeson. The action is pretty engaging at the end when there are high stakes. Especially the car chase scenes that included a tire-burning, wide-body, Hellcat.

Verdict

I give Backlight 2.5 out of 5 stars. This movie serves as a filler until Neeson’s next major film which I hope is a remake of Naked Gun!

Rating: 2.5 out of 5.
