Sigourney Weaver who played Dr. Grace Augustine is returning to Avatar despite dying in the first movie. She is playing a new Na’vi character named Kiri who is Jake and Neytiri’s adoptive teenage daughter. Avatar: The Way of Water will open in theaters on December 16th 2022. It is set more than a decade after the first film’s events. The Way of Water begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids. It will explore the trouble that follows them, their lengths to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure. The sequel is directed and produced by James Cameron. The film stars Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Edie Falco, Jemaine Clement, Giovanni Ribisi, and Kate Winslet. I think we all pretty much remember what we were feeling as adolescents,” Weaver tells Empire. “I felt strongly that Kiri would feel awkward a lot of the time. She’s searching for who she is. I was thrilled to be given that challenge by Jim.”
