Three animated feature films based in the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender has been announced by Paramount and Nickelodeon. Lauren Montgomery, who worked on the original series, will direct one of them. Two of the movies are said to be about Kyoshi and Zuko. The third film is set in The Legend of Korra era.
“As original creators Mike and Bryan expand the Avatar universe with us, we’re keeping it all in the family with Lauren bringing the same kind of expert, beautiful work she did on the original series to her new directing duties on the forthcoming theatrical.”
Ramsey Naito, who serves as President of Animation & Development at Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation.
The Last Airbender animated series initially premiered on Nickelodeon in 2005 and concluded in 2008. The Legend of Korra debuted in 2012 before it ended in 2014. The single live-action 2019 adaptation by M. Night Shyamalan was hated by fans and critics. Netflix announced their own live-action series, which originally had the creators onboard before their departure. This led to the creation of Avatar Studios, which is now helming the new films.
