8-Bit Christmas is full of 1980’s nostalgia.

8-Bit Christmas is a humorous and heartfelt look back at the adventures of childhood. Set in suburban Chicago in the late 1980s, the story centers on ten-year-old Jake Doyle’s herculean quest to get the latest and most incredible video game system for Christmas. The film stars Neil Patrick Harris and Winslow Fegley as the adult and young Jake.
8-Bit Christmas is a fun nostalgic trip for those who grew up with the same struggles of wanting a Nintendo for Christmas. We all have that favorite memory of finally getting our hands on that special video-game console. This movie may not be the most original holiday movie, but it does entertain with a relatable plot. The 80’s nostalgia is strong with its shopping mall and roller rink scenes, and the period-correct details are fun to point out. With Neil Patrick Harris’ voice-over narration throughout, this film gives off vibes of a modern version of A Christmas Story. This family-friendly holiday film does not drag with a runtime of just 1 hour and 37 minutes.
Verdict
I give 8-Bit Christmas an 7.5 out of 10. It a solid movie selection for those looking for something new to watch on Thanksgiving Day. It is now streaming on HBO Max.
