|Movie Review| The Call Of The Wild (Spoiler Free)

In Theaters February 21st 2020

Adapted from the beloved literary classic, THE CALL OF THE WILD vividly brings to the screen the story of Buck, a big-hearted dog whose blissful domestic life is turned upside down when he is suddenly uprooted from his California home and transplanted to the exotic wilds of the Yukon during the Gold Rush of the 1890s. As the newest rookie on a mail delivery dog sled team–and later its leader–Buck experiences the adventure of a lifetime, ultimately finding his true place in the world and becoming his own master.

A movie I did not expect to enjoy at all, Harrison Ford’s latest movie at age 77, The Call of the Wild is hitting theaters this weekend.

This movie pleasantly surprised me as I truly enjoyed it. Even though Harrison Ford stars in this movie, the real star is Buck who is a St. Bernard/Scotch Collie dog and gets 100% screen-time. Give this movie a chance despite the lackluster and corny trailers that have been promoting this book adaptation. It has always been a great and beloved story that has been developed well for the big screen. It has a lot of heart and emotion from beginning to end and once you get past the questionable CGI, you can enjoy the adventure in front of you.

Ford’s character has a lot of heartwarming charm to accompany Buck’s courage, strength, and loyalty. There is so much character development for Buck which makes you invested in his experiences and growth. Despite the dark elements, there is great humor throughout for kids and adults alike to appreciate and the landscapes of the Yukon are absolutely breathtaking.

I give The Call Of The Wild a 7.5/10 and think this movie is a great break from the big blockbusters hitting the theaters as of late. We just don’t get family movies like this anymore with such a meaningful and powerful story.
